game making tool that is lighter than an engine but still lets me make things for the web

by tess

I want a tool I can use to make small and bad games. However, I can't find a tool I like.

I find Godot to be very frustrating every time I try to use it. It feels like the engine gets in the way just as often as it helps.

I think LÖVE2d might be a better fit, but I haven't tried it since it doesn't have an officially supported web export.

Someone online had a setup for building webgames with vite and typescript, which was fun but it was very difficult for me to make any progress beyond setting everything up. Getting sprites set up was a pain and I didn't even do it well.

Pico8 honestly seems like my best bet at the moment, but it would be nice to have a less restrictive tool.

I just want to mess around and have fun...
