Source style tileable texture pack
by alex
Tileable textures can be found in various places on the internet but:
- It is difficult to find tileable textures that are artistically consistent
- Existing packs don't necessarily cover all desired areas (nature vs city, concrete vs wood etc)
- Textures rarely include time details (doorways)
I believe Source style textures provide the best blueprint for great tileable textures.
I'll add any good links to the resources section here!
Seeing Makkon's textures below reminds me I'd love one program that could easily batch convert textures for different game engines.
I'm curious, what do you mean by Source style in particular?
Yeah I was a bit vague haha. In general if someone doesn't understand the 'format' of the sort of tileable textures I'm looking for I'd point them to source games in lieu of being able to articulate what I want.
For example, if tiling textures have a blob of detail on them then they stop looking good. Valve are really good at that sort of thing.
More specifically, I am also interested in emulating the style of half life 2 and new counter strikes.
Had to create two accounts on accident since my password went through wrong and the "forgot your password" option wasn't working.
Wanted to take note that most of source's level assets are more photosourced textures, whereas the quake community uses a lot of procedural materials. I think if the goal is finding more tiling materials it's going to be harder since it seems most devs are forced to learning substance nowadays, so everyone's expected to build everything from scratch. For what it's worth i think Half Life Alyx and CS2 also uses phototextures extensively as well, and there's a lot of good websites for those.
